Carnival Launches Home Port Agent Training ProgramJune 14, 2012
Carnival Cruise Lines launched the first “From Your Home to Our Home Port” training last week in Orlando, Fla. The three-day event featured sessions on attracting first-time cruisers, tips on how to host cruise nights, and visits to the Carnival Dream and Carnival Sensation in nearby Port Canaveral. Three additional “From Your Home to Our Home Port” events are scheduled for July 13-15 in Baltimore, July 27-29 in New Orleans from and Sept. 28-30 in Galveston.
“From Your Home to Our Home Port” builds upon the line’s “From Your Home to Ours” program introduced in 2011, which brought agents to Carnival’s Miami headquarters for sales and marketing seminars, training and best practices on building and managing client databases. In addition, the program featured visits to Carnival’s South Florida-based ships and area attractions. Both programs were designed for home-based agents but are available to all travel agents.
“From Your Home to Our Home Port” was created to bring the program closer to travel agents across the U.S. and to introduce them to a few of the 19 home ports from which Carnival sails. It is estimated that roughly half of the U.S. population lives within a day’s drive from a Carnival home port.
The home port sessions include a baseball-themed training on how to attract “cruise rookies,” as well ways agents can hone their listening skills, qualify prospects and dispel common misperceptions about cruising. An interactive dinner features tips on how to use the line’s “Cruise Party in a Box.” In addition, agents can visit Carnival ships and explore local attractions. Attendees also earn points in Carnival’s Travel Agent Rewards Program for attending.
“The program is already proving to be very popular with agents so we’re planning to add training sessions to more home ports in 2013,” said Joni Rein, vice president of worldwide sales for Carnival.
